Ricketts Hagan CRicketts-Hagan is hoping to be NDC flagbearer

A flag bearer-hopeful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, has said a new person apart from former President John Mahama, must lead the main opposition party as its presidential candidate into the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.

According to the former Deputy Minister of Finance in the Mahama administration, after introspection following the NDC’s defeat in the 2016 elections, he has come to realise that “the party needs re-branding with a new face” to lead it into the 2020 elections.

Mr Ricketts-Hagan is one of eleven persons, including Mr Mahama, eyeing the flag bearer slot of the party.

Speaking on Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM hosted by Chief Jerry Forson on Monday, 3 September, Mr Ricketts-Hagan said: “The NDC, under John Mahama’s administration did a lot of infrastructural projects more than his predecessors and Ghanaians appreciated that work, but I always say that we could have done more.”

He added: “There are other areas of governance that we fell short, and, so, after introspection, it has become necessary that the NDC re-brands itself and provide new leadership for the new battle ahead.

“It is for that reason that I believe that in our party, the NDC, and in the country, we need to move forward with a new leader.

“Those who came before us, including President Mahama, have done their best and I think it is time that a new face appears on the NDC’s scene to take the country forward, that is the reason I am contesting.”
