The delegation says the honour is for partnering and supporting her husband, the President.
The First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo has been honoured by the leadership and members of the Adanwomase Kente Weavers and Sellers Association.
The honour was conferred on her with the presentation of two specially woven Kente cloths.
The Kente varieties named “Oseade?y? Akufo-Addo” and “Ohemaa Rebecca” for her dedicated effort and commitment to the progress and wellbeing of women and children in the country.
According to the delegation, the honour is for partnering and supporting her husband, the President through difficult periods to ascend to the highest office of the land.
Also, it is for supporting him to initiate “laudable policies and programmes such as Free Senior High School, Restoration of Teacher and Nursing trainees allowances as well as the setting up of the Office of the Special Prosecutor” they added.
The delegation held that they are also honouring the First Lady for establishing the Rebecca Foundation to complement the efforts of the Akufo-Addo government towards supporting and promoting initiatives that have improved the socio-economic status of women and children in Ghana.
“Such efforts led to the construction of an Ultra-Modern Mother and Baby Unit at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi which was christened after the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Serwaa Kobi Ampem Centre,” the spokesperson of the Association, Kwame Nyame said.
They expressed confidence that the centre without any shadow of doubt, will go a long way to help save thousands of mothers and babies from maternal mortality and infant deaths in Ashanti Region and beyond.
“There is the saying that, behind every successful man, there is a woman but we are saying that, behind a successful President Oseade3yo Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, there is a strong, intelligent, visionary, understanding, caring and loving Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo.”
According to them, the two symbolic Kente cloths, the “Oseade?y? Akufo-Addo” is for her continued support for her husband and the “Ohemaa Rebecca” is for her motherly role as Queen mother for Women and Children.
“The cardinal role of Ohemaa is to seek the welfare of women and children in her traditional area, which is exactly what you are doing. Therefore, people of Ashanti especially women and children shall always remember you for this magnificent project executed in the Region for their benefit,” he stressed.
First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo, expressed gratitude for the honour and recognition accorded her and asked for their continued support for the Akufo-Addo government and the activities of the Rebecca Foundation.
