    Accra, Aug. 30, GNA –  The Ghanaian Battalion serving with the
    United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on Thursday paid glowing tribute
    to the former UN Secretary General the late Kofi Annan at the Paradise Square
    in Bentiu.

    A statement issued to the Ghana News Agency
    said the Pre-Memorial Parade was graced by Brigadier General Albert Dawohoso,
    the Sector North Commander, Lieutenant

    Accra, Aug. 30, GNA –  The Ghanaian Battalion serving with the
    United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on Thursday paid glowing tribute
    to the former UN Secretary General the late Kofi Annan at the Paradise Square
    in Bentiu.

    A statement issued to the Ghana News Agency
    said the Pre-Memorial Parade was graced by Brigadier General Albert Dawohoso,
    the Sector North Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Albert Sison Ogaja, the
    Commanding Officer, and other Commanding officers serving with UNMISS in South
    Sudan.

    Madam Hiroko Hirahara, Head of Field Office
    (HoFO), Bentiu who was the guest of honour described the former UN Secretary
    General as a great man who led in improving world peace with passion, love and
    inspiration.

    She said Kofi Annan believed in the United Nations
    and he strived to make the world a better place for all who did not have peace.

    She also urged all to relay the message of
    peace and unity across the world as Kofi Annan did.

    Brigadier General Dawohoso, said: ‘’the
    Ghanaian fraternity is saddened by the death of the former UN Secretary General
    and that his foot prints transcend every part of the world from the far east to
    the west.

    Although our hearts are heavy, we take
    consolation from the fact that his foot prints shall forever be ingrained in
    the hearts of those who pursue peace’’.

    Prayers were said for the soul of the former
    UN Secretary General and the Last Post was sounded, after which a minute of
    silence was observed.

    The ceremony ended with the sounding of the
    Reveille after which the UN anthem was sung.

    The death of the former Secretary General of
    the United Nations Kofi Annan, on Saturday August 18, 2018 came as a shock to
    the entire world.
