The alleged abuse of office and continuous show of disrespect to the constituencies and regional executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tamale, Iddrisu Musah Superior, has incurred the wrath of the faithful to abandon the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The President, during his recent tour to the Northern Region last month, had nothing to cheer about as the streets of Tamale which are usually filled with party supporters to welcome him went dead in protest against the MCE of the area.
At a news conference in Tamale, Wednesday, to voice out their displeasure about the conduct of Musah Superior, the constituency executives in both Tamale South and Central with support from their regional executives issued a caveat to the President to either chose between them and that of the MCE for the area.
“Mr. President, your working visit to the Region last month and met an empty street without the party supporters coming out to give you a tumultuous welcome speaks volumes, especially, in the Tamale Metro. Mr. President, your party members are tired with their MCE. On thise are asking you to save the party in the metropolis by sacking Musah Superior as the MCE for Tamale Metro with immediate effect upon receipt of our petition which will be sent to your honourable office subsequent to this statement or else the worse will happen”, noted the Tamale South Constituency Secretary of the NPP, Yussif Danjumah who addressed the journalists on behalf of his colleagues.
In the view of the party functionaries, since the appointment of Musah Superior to one of the most enviable positions in the Northern Region, not a single contract has he ever awarded to members of the NPP, especially, the Executives, for them to use the proceeds to support the party.
They also accused the Tamale Mayor of running a parallel administration without consulting the party executives in both Tamale South and Central constituencies while also show gross disrespect towards the regional executives and the political authority in the region.
Superior is further accused of channeling the resources belonging to the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly which otherwise should have been used to develop the two constituencies under the Metro – Tamale South and Tamale Central to Mion, a constituency he is targeting of becoming their Member of Parliament (MP).
“Ever since he declared his intentions to contest the NPP primaries in the Mion Constituency, his appetite for the development of his constituency is very glaring for any careful observer to the detriment of the two constituencies under Tamale Metro. He refused to honour an invitation by the Regional Executive Committee to settle this matter amicably and called their bluff. Again, since he is beyond everybody in this region, Mr. President, Tamale Metro can no longer contain we the Executives, and the MCE. The last time he had a meeting with the Constituency Executives, he apologized profusely and he was forgiven and was asked to go and sin no more. But his actions and inactions are worse than ever before, hence, we have no other option than to call for his immediate dismissal since that is the only language that he comprehends with”, noted Danjumah to a rousing applause from his fellow executives and members of the party.
He added “He throws his wait about and claims that he is only answerable to the President and that he got his appointment from Presidency. At least, that is not in contention. So therefore, Mr. President, we are asking you choose between the party Executives and an individual who is bent on destroying the party in the metropolis. Majority of what is supposed to be given to the two constituencies under Tamale Metro has been sent to Mion and this raises the question – is he the MCE for Mion or Tamale Metro?”
