Ghanaians urged to shun greed and make sacrifices to develop the country

Bolgatanga, August. 21, GNA – The Upper East
Regional Minister, Mr Rockson Ayine Bukari has admonished Ghanaians to create
an enabling environment for the next generation to flourish.

Mr Bukari therefore urged Ghanaians to shun
greed and rather sacrifice towards creating a better future for Ghanaian
children.

The Minister made the call during the
celebration of Eid-ul-Adha prayers held at the regional capital, Bolgatanga.

The Eid-ul-Adha feast is celebrated by Muslims
worldwide to remember the sacrifice that Prophet Abraham accepted to offer his
only son, Ishmael at the request of Almighty Allah.

The Minister who graced the occasion said the
singular act of Prophet Abraham had a lesson for Muslims and non-Muslims to
emulate in making sacrifices for “human kind, starting from our families,
communities and country”

Mr Bukari stated that the sacrifice therefore
calls for an awakened communal spirit and love for country while being each
other’s keeper.

The Minister added that the celebration of
Eid-ul-Adha was a reflection that Allah knew the desires of mankind and would
meet them by His wishes and blessings.

“We do not need to cut corners, cheat people
or disobey Allah himself to satisfy our pressing desires. By that single act of
Allah, it is an assurance that when we have faith and place Him above all other
things, our worries, frustrations and needs will be catered for”, he said.

The Minister thanked the Muslim community on
behalf of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for their prayers and support
to him and the country in the last one and half years.

He assured Muslims of the government’s
continuous support to them at all times.

According to him, government successfully
re-organised the Hajj Board to ensure an incident-free pilgrimage this year,
and said “government has subsidized the Hajj fare from almost GH¢20,000.00 to
GH¢15,000.00 for every pilgrim” thereby making it the lowest fares this year.

He said “government is also providing free
food and accommodation to all pilgrims throughout their stay in the Holy Land”

Speaking on the establishment of the Zongo
Development Fund, Mr Bukari said the initiative had come to rescue the Zongo
communities where amenities and infrastructure were nothing to write home
about.

The Minister therefore reminded Ghanaians of
government’s recognition of religious bodies as partners in development.

“We are committed to creating an enabling
environment to nurture this partnership to grow so that we are able to play our
respective roles effectively for national development”

Deputy Chief Imam for the Upper East Region,
Sheikh Tahir Saeed admonished Muslims to pray for peace for the region and the
country as a whole.

The Imam on behalf of Muslims in the region,
pledged their support to ensure that government plans for the Zongo communities
through the creation of the Zongo and Inner Cities Ministry succeeded.
