Nsawam (E/R), Aug. 21, GNA – Mr Ibrahim Oppong
Kwarteng, the Executive Director of Crime Check Foundation (CCF), a Prison NGO,
has called on celebrities to support the country’s prisons, especially inmates.

“They have influence so we at CCF thought it
wise to seek their support for the voiceless in prison,” he added.

Mr Kwarteng said this when management of the
Foundation facilitated the donation of various items to the Nsawam Female
Prison by Nana Ama Mcbrown, as part of her 41st Birthday celebration.

The items include two boxes of Tasty Tom
tomato paste, Hisense TVs, Soft Care Sanitary Pad, Mosquito Coils, toiletries,
packaged food, soft drinks, rice and sugar, bags of sachet water and powdered
soap, among others.

“We hope other celebrities will come on board
to make our prisons purely correctional centres,” he said.

Nana Ama Mcbrown said birthdays are very
special occasion and that she mostly spends it at orphanages but decided to do
something different this year.

“This year, I decided to do something I have
not done before, I wanted to go to the prisons to make them happy,” she said.

The Actress said, “I was impressed with the
set-up, obviously nobody is happy to be in prison, nobody is happy to be taken
away from their family but the environment is so neat and that, for me was
good.”

She said she felt so sad when she saw a
pregnant woman and an old woman, no matter what might have sent them there, it
was sad to see such people in prison.

“That notwithstanding, I am glad I came to
celebrate my special day with them and I thank my sponsors for making it all
possible,” she said.

“I am grateful to the Lord for today. I
decided not to celebrate my birthday, but spend the day with the female inmates
at Nsawam prison. Throughout the year the Lord has given me many endorsement
deals, given me blessings and helped me in so many ways,” she added.
