Goozie Tanoh slams NDC over free SHS

A member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and defunct Reform Party, Goozie Tanoh has expressed disappointment over his party’s failure to back suggestions by the Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta that persons who can afford to pay fees for their wards should be excluded from the government’s Free SHS policy.

Ken Ofori Atta a month ago observed that it would be prudent for government to vary the policy to allow those who can afford pay for their wards since implementation of the policy has been fraught with serious challenges.

However his position was met with serious criticisms including that from then Minister of Information, Mustapha Hamid.

Speaking to the Progressive Activist group of the NDC, Goozie Tanoh stated that the NDC must learn to commend whatever is in the best interest of the country.

“The Minister of Finance says you know this Free education is a great thing, I support it but we may not have enough money or maybe we rushed to do it and people from his own party attacked him. This is a man who’s holding the wallet of the country and he’s saying that guys the money is not there so let’s go easy, let’s implement this wonderful policy but let’s do it in a staggered manner. No, and nobody from the other side said this man has spoken a lot of sense, we support that. They were rather gloating that ah we warned them that this policy will fail, meanwhile it’s you and I our children we’re talking about.”
