The Yilo Krobo Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Ebenezer Tetteh Kupualor, nearly tasted the wrath of some demonstrating youth as they nearly lynched him.

But for the professional way the Odumase Krobo District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Francis Selormey, and his men handled the incident, it would have been nasty.

It all happened when the MCE stepped forward to receive a petition from the Yilo Krobo Youth Association, a pressure group in the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area, on behalf of the President. The demonstrating group in the petition had requested the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to remove the Yilo Krobo MCE from office or the group would advise itself.

Sensing danger as the youth were advancing on the MCE to present the petition, the police quickly whisked him away and put him in his official car and sped off amidst shouting and hooting.

Complaints

According to the youth, the current MCE for Yilo Krobo, Mr Kupualor, who is not a native of the Krobo area was not helping but was rather seeking his personal interest at the expense of the entire Yilo Krobo traditional area and that it was time the President removed him before he incurred their wrath.

“Kupualor is not a native of Krobo area, let alone a Yilo Krobo citizen. He is from Ada, and therefore, we don’t have any problem if the President sees him as a good material and sends him to be the DCE at any of the districts in the Ada traditional area in the Greater Accra Region, but not in the Krobo area in the Eastern Region. We don’t dispute the fact that he is a Dangme, but he is not a Krobo”.

“What we have planned to do if the President refuses to give us audience is personal to us and we shall act as and when necessary’’, the group added.

Demonstration

Speaking to the Daily Graphic at Somanya after the demonstration titled: “Petition against relocation of major projects of the main campus of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development from Somanya to Bunso’’ the youth group alleged that Mr Kupualor did not have any respect for the elders of the Yilo Krobo community and Krobos in general.

“A lot of our elders are complaining about him because he has no regard for anyone of them whenever they visited the office for any official discussion. He is not polite and talks impolitely to anyone irrespective of the age and position of the person in question”.

According to the group, since the President appointed him as the MCE for the area, all development projects started by the previous government had come to a stand still, and he was rather promoting his personal interest at the expense of the area.

“He is not a Krobo and, therefore, he is not sensitive to very important issues that will bring about development to the Krobo area and specifically, Yilo Krobo’’, the group stressed.

The group said there were enough enlightened and well-educated Yilo Krobo citizens who could equally hold the chief executive position and had passion for their own area rather than Kupualor, adding “imposition of Kupualor on Yilo Krobo is an affront to the dignitary of Krobos’’.
