A young police officer lost his life while trying to save the life of a suicidal man.

New York police were called to a home on a report of an unstable man who was suicidal.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and the Corning Police Department responded at 3:30 a.m. to the home located at 10041 Welch Road in Erwin, where the suicidal man had barricaded himself inside.

29-year old trooper Nicholas Clark was one of the officers who arrived at the home near the Corning Community College.

The suicidal man fired a shot, killing officer Clark. He leaves behind his parents and a brother.

The suspect then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.

The suspect was identified as 43-year-old Steven Kiley. He was the principal at the Bradford Central School. His name and photo have since been deleted from the school’s website.

Kiley, who lived in a nice home, leaves behind his wife and children.
