A man landed in jail while his girlfriend was taken to a hospital for stitches after a drunken fight turned violent.
30-year-old Joseph William Smallegan was arrested after authorities said he threw his girlfriend out the window of a hotel during a drunken brawl.
The incident occurred at around 1:00 a.m., on Sunday, at the Vero Beach Inn and Suites near Interstate 95 in Florida.
Indian River County Sheriff’s deputies who arrived at the scene found Smallegan and his girlfriend highly intoxicated.
The woman had a deep cut on the top of the head and another on the right heel.
She told police that she was fighting with her boyfriend of two years when he cornered her in the room.
She claimed that after she pushed Smallegan away from her, he punched her in the face, grabbed her by the neck, and threw her out the window, police said.
A hotel employee standing by the pool told the deputies that she heard glass shattering and then she saw the woman outside.
Smallegan denied the allegations that he threw his girlfriend out of the window.
He claimed that they were fighting over his girlfriend’s alleged drinking problem when she threw his shoe and broke the window, according to the police report.
Smallegan was charged with aggravated domestic violence battery. He was released from jail after posting $2,500 bail.
