National Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Sammi Awuku has joined distinguished African statesmen in the call for the empowerment of the youth on the African continent.

Mr. Awuku who is currently attending the 7th Africa Students and Youth Summit in the Rwandan capital of Kigali joined distinguished personalities including pan-Africanist and Kenyan law professor, PLO Lumumba, the Hon. Musoni Protais, chairman of the Pan Africanist Movement of Rwanda among other high profile African personalities to discuss the African agenda.

Speaking to MyNewsGh.com from far away Rwanda, Mr. Awuku said “myself and the other distinguished panel members were unanimous in our call for African youth to be empowered and supported to ensure the achievement and attainment of Agenda 2063”

Mr. Sammi Awuku was at the Summit as the current Prize Winner of the Continental Youth Icon for 2016/2017.

Both Sammi Awuku and Prof. PLO Lumumba were unanimous in condemning what has become known as Franco Africa and Anglo Africa, making a strong case that this was indirectly a way of maintaining colonial names of African countries and offering the opportunity for former colonial masters to maintain their grip on the continent

Mr. Awuku bemoaned the culture of some African leaders not giving enough opportunities to the younger generation and thereby limiting their potentials, encouraging them to learn from Presidents Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of Ghana and Paul Kagame of Rwanda who have enacted youth-friendly policies in their respective countries aimed at empowering the younger generation.

The Iconic young politician used the occasion to espouse President Akufo-Addo’s quest to create a Ghana Beyond Aid, adding that the free Senior High School programme was one that is aimed at offering equal educational opportunities for the youth in Ghana.

The inspirational former National Youth Leader of the NPP dazzled his audience and fellow panelists at the summit, as he urged African youth to play a pivotal role in the AU Agenda 2063.

He said this can only be done when African Youth are empowered and also see themselves as a collective group fighting poverty, neo colonialism and corruption.

The Summit which is under the theme: Pan Africanism; A Paradigm Shift towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and African Union Agenda 2063, the role of the youth, saw some two thousand (2000) youth from thirty three (33) African countries in attendance.

He was full of praise for the All Africa Students Union (AASU) and organisers of the summit for leading important and fruitful discussions aimed at building robust and solid Africa that will offer hope to the younger generation.

The Summit which was organised by the All Africa Students Union in Collaboration with the Ministry of Education of Rwanda and the Pan Africanist Movement of Rwanda ends on 28th July.
