A police officer and an elderly woman lost their lives after being hit by a bullet from the officer’s gun.

According to authorities, at around 7:30 a.m., a Massachusetts police officer saw 20-year-old Emanuel “Manny” Lopes crashing his car before fleeing on foot.

Assistant Norfolk District Attorney Greg Connor said that Weymouth police officer Michael Chesna, 42, found Lopes in a home nearby.

When the officer drew his gun and ordered Lopes to stop, the suspect attacked Chesna with a stone and hit him on the head.

The officer fell to the ground and was injured by the stone. While he was down, Lopes grabbed the officer’s gun and fired several times, fatally striking the officer in the head and chest.

An elderly woman who was looking out of her window was also hit by a bullet and was killed.

Chesna was an Army veteran with almost six years with the police force.

Lopes was taken to a hospital for treatment before being arrested for the double murder.

He arrived in a wheelchair to the courtroom that was packed with police officers showing their support for the fallen officer.
