Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu has disclosed to Parliament that the health workers involved in the death of five people in the New Senchi Hospital in Asuogyaman District have been arrested and detained on the charges of murder.
This comes after some workers of the hospital were alleged to have administered some contaminated injections on patients who had gone to seek treatment for their skin infections at the facility.
According to the Health Minister, “The health workers were arrested and detained on the preliminary charge of murder and were subsequently granted bail by the Koforidua High Court as investigations continue.”
He added that the ministry is awaiting the outcome of the police investigation for further reaction to the matter.
On March 30, 2018 it was reported that four people died after one James Yeboah, a retired Disease Control Officer improvised poisonous injections found to contain expired Benzathine penicillin in the New Senchi Health Centre in the Eastern Region.
Some victims who were administered with the poisonous injection suffered side effects which was difficult to manage.
This casualty caused the Ministry of Health to conduct an investigation into the deaths of the patients and assess the centre where the patients were under investigation.
Following the report, the Minister for Health, Kwaku Agyemang Manu who was in parliament yesterday to give an update on the matter informed the house that the delegates have met the families of the deceased and those who were affected and have put in measures to avert the situation from happening again.
“The Ministry of Health, however, conducted a multi-agency and multi-disciplinary investigation into the cause and have since put in measures to avoid its recurrence,” he said.
