Protests erupt after rapists cuts off tongue of girl with Down syndrome to keep her from telling anyone about attack

People in a community came out to protest and demand harsh punishment for a rapist over his gruesome acts.

Police in Bolivia announced that they have arrested a 23-year-old man who was accused of raping a disabled young girl.

According to protesters, the suspect raped the 9-year-old girl with Down syndrome before cutting out her tongue so she could not tell her parents about the abuse.

Police were able to track down the suspect and he was taken into custody.

The suspect, who was not named for legal reasons, is reportedly a neighbor of the victim. They both live in Potosi.

The community is demanding swift action and harsh punishment against the rapist.
