Accra July 16, GNA – Over 17,615 farmers under
the Nestlé Cocoa Plan (NCP) in Ghana are set to benefit from a GH¢ 5.2 million
premium package.

The package is part of the company’s
commitment towards developing thriving and resilient communities within its
value chain.

A statement issued by Nestlé Corporate and
Communications Affairs and copied to the Ghana News Agency said, effective July
2018, Nestlé through its implementing partners, Cocoanect and Ecom Agro
industrial Corp Ltd would pay each farmer GH¢ 14 per certified bag, which is
about 14.3 per cent increment on the GH¢ 12 paid in 2017.

It said the NCP falls under the Nestlé’s Creating
Shared Value (CSV) approach, which brought business and society together,
creating sustainable economic value that also produces wider benefits for
society.

The statement said under the NCP, the company
sought to improve the lives of cocoa farmers and the quality of their produce,
in line with the company’s purpose of enhancing the quality of life and
contributing to a healthier future.

It said Nestlé, was poised to help improve 30
million livelihoods of people directly connected to its business by 2030
through the Agricultural focused projects such as the Nestlé Cocoa Plan and the
Nestlé Cereals Plan.

The statement said the increased premium
payment would help motivate them to produce quality cocoa that would meet
production standards, help increase local sourcing and contribute to developing
the local economy.
