Accra, July 16, GNA – The BMW Club of Ghana in
partnership with the Auto Community and Biker Clubs has held a blood donation
exercise to help increase the stock of blood at the national blood bank.

The event, which took place in Accra, saw a
number of the club members, bystanders and community folks donating to help
save lives at the hospitals.

Mr Benjamin Kwadjo Oppong, the President of
the BMW Club Ghana, said the exercise was to restock the blood bank as one of
the many activities the Club had embarked on.

He said the exercise targeted about 400 pints
of blood and appealed to people to donate voluntarily.

Maame K Stephens, the Director Keysens Group
and Brand Ambassador for Voluntary Blood Donation, said availability of blood
in hospitals saved lives.

“I am looking forward to a day where giving
blood becomes a life style for Ghanaians. We need to get there so that anytime
people walk into the health facility in need of blood, they can easily be
assisted,” she stated.

She said it was important as there were so
many needless deaths, people being turned away because of blood shortage among
others and urged all to support the course.

Ms Stephens said everybody at age 17 and above
could donate blood unless the person was declared medically unfit and appealed
to them to walk into the offices of the National Blood Service or hospitals and
donate blood to save lives.

She said the blood bank was currently
surviving on the family replacement system which was not enough hence the need
for more voluntary donors and expressed gratitude to all voluntary donors and
urged them not to relent in their efforts and keep donating.

Nana Stephens, the Executive, BMW Club Ghana
and Lead Organiser, Auto Fray Blood Drive, said the event was recognised by BMW
global on the need for blood.

“There were also fun activities such as
cooking competition, dancing competition, bike racing, games among others just
to cheer people as they donated”, he stated.

He said the club would be embarking on this
activity on yearly basis to ensure that blood shortage became a thing of the
past and gratitude to Keysens Group and all other sponsors for supporting the
initiative.
