Isaac Adongo, Member of Parliament for Bolga central
Member of Parliament for Bolga central, Isaac Adongo has said Ghanaians should not expect anything good from the mid-year budget review to be presented by the Finance Minister in parliament later this week.
According to Isaac Adongo, the Akufo-Addo led government has failed Ghanaians as most citizens are currently living from hand to mouth due to economic challenges.
Speaking at the Minority Roundtable Breakfast Dialogue on the Mid-Year Economic Performance and Projections for 2018, the Member of Parliament indicated that the government is currently having challenges in generating revenues in the country that is why they are introducing new a tax measure to boost revenue mobilization.
“Currently we are running an economy that basically ensures that the people in Ghana are living from hand to mouth, and this government is coming to tax the little that we have to raise revenue after making noise they made(before the 2016 election). They basically have no room to open, “he said
Isaac Adongo stated that the only way government could generate revenue after it failed to stabilize the economy is to cut down the size of government instead of imposing a raft of heavy taxes on the populace.
“They made us understand that they needed to move away from taxation in order to grow the economy. Instead of imposing heavy tax on Ghanaians they should rather reduce the size of government to generate revenue” he said.
He added that the current cedi depreciation is due to the “incompetence” of the Akufo-Addo led government as they failed to fulfil their key campaign promises during the 2016 election.
The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta is expected to present the mid-year budget review to parliament on Thursday.
It is revealed that government would be introducing new tax measures to boost domestic revenue mobilization in the country.
