Police in Pennsylvania are asking the public to follow in the footsteps of a man who decided to pay an outstanding ticket that he received many years ago.

Minersville Police Chief Michael Combs said that they received a letter in the mail that included a ticket and cash to pay for it.

The payment was for a parking ticket that was issued in 1974.

The man did not want to give his personal information but gave his name as Dave.

The letter, which was enclosed with the cash, read: “Dear PD, I’ve been carrying this ticket around for 40 plus years. Always intending to pay. Forgive me if I don’t give you my info. With respect, Dave.”

In the 1970s, a parking ticket was only $2. The man added $3 in interest, Combs said.

“He paid us $5, that only means I made $3. I can’t retire on that,” Combs joked.

Combs is encouraging anyone else who has an outstanding ticket to pay it.
