Ecobank File3012 students from both universities have been sponsored to further their education abroad

Ecobank Ghana Limited has supported 12 medical students from the University of Ghana and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with UD$1,000 each to finance further medical training abroad.

These students are to embark on a one-month exchange program scheduled to take place between July and September 2018 in various countries including Germany, Israel and USA.

Addressing the sponsorship event held at the bank’s Head office in Accra, the Managing Director of the bank, Dan Sackey, expressed the hope that the sponsorship will positively impact the lives of the students.

“To our beneficiaries, it is my expectation that as medical students and future physicians you will become powerful agents of change. You must approach this opportunity with a teachable spirit that will ensure that you return from this short stint with great exposure and that will have a strong impact on your life journey,” he remarked.

He also admonished beneficiaries of the sponsorship to strive to improve the lives of every Ghanaian in their future profession as doctors and surgeons.

He charged them to be ready to deliver quality healthcare to Ghanaians even in the remotest areas of the country upon their return.

“Your first sacrifice must include the willingness to accept posting to health facilities anywhere in the country. The rural areas need you to help save the precious lives of rural folks” he said.

President of the University of Ghana Medical Students Association, Kwabena Oppong Amoako, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries said the sponsorship was much needed as they would not have been able to independently bear the cost of the exchange program.

“Many of us would have actually had to reconsider whether we are going or not because we cannot travel without funds, so I believe this sponsorship is going to go a very long way to help most of us go outside and learn a few things to help our country,” he said.

The financial support is in line with ECOBANK Ghana’s Corporate Social Responsibility.

The bank has supported Ghanaian medical schools over the past 15 years.
