Ho, June 26, GNA – The Parent Teacher
Association (PTA) of the Mawuli Evangelical Presbyterian Basic School Complex
has donated sets of desk and computers worth GHC 62,290 to the school to
augment its USAID Learning programme.

The programme aims at improving and sustaining
reading performance in primary school learners nationwide, with a special focus
on children in kindergarten one through grade three (KG1-P3).

It is expected to bolster the human and
institutional capacity of Ghana’s education sector.

Mr Cornelius Sekley, Chairman of the PTA said
the support was to help both the teachers and pupils reap full benefit of the
programme.

He said the Association noted that most of the
school’s computers were either broken down or outmoded and decided to refurbish
the school’s computer laboratory with 20 new computers.

Mr John K. Teku, Ho Municipal Director, Ghana
Education Service, applauded the PTA for coming to the school’s aid, saying,
nurseries and kindergartens formed the bedrock of basic education and that “the
right logistics will ensure effective teaching and learning”.

He called on the teachers and pupils to make
good use of the equipment and appealed to them to help sustain the programme
after it ends in 2020.

Mrs Mawuse Ocloo, Headmistress of the school
also lauded the PTA and the management committee for prompt responses to the
school’s needs and appealed to the Municipal Assembly to help the school expand
its classrooms.

The basic school complex comprising of “Basic
schools A, B, and C” has a student population of 1,250 with teaching staff
strength of 55.
