PFAG: Players want “proactive and all inclusive” reform for Ghana football

Professional footballers in Ghana have called for a “proactive and all-inclusive” approach in government’s efforts to reform the sport in the country.

Football in Ghana has ground to a halt over the past few weeks due to government’s reaction to an explosive undercover documentary on corruption in the game by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

The state has since decided to stop the game and embark on massive sanitization of the existing system.

And footballers, who are key actors of the sport, have added their voices to the development.

“The Players acknowledge that Ghana football is going through a difficult time but have absolute confidence that the right decisions will be made benefiting all stakeholders.

“In light of the on-going efforts for improved governance the Players want to see a proactive and all-inclusive reform of our football,” reads a signed statement from the Players Union, PFAG.

“The PFAG thus calls on all stakeholders to work together to ensure a proper structural representation and the PFAG with support from FIFPro is ready to assist in this process to protect the rights of all footballers who are a major stakeholder in the game.

“Accordingly, PFAG is committed to the development of a new workable model, a paradigm shift and consensus which will be vital to usher in a new era of transparency and performance,” it added.

The statement follows a meeting by The players Union, the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), which was constituted by captains of the various Premier League Clubs and a representative of the female league.
