IMC to run Ghana football collapsed – Govt

Government has announced the collapse of the five member interim management committee (IMC) which was set up to oversee the administration of Ghana football until the current impasse involving the embattled Ghana Football Association is resolved.

The decision follows the much-anticipate meeting held on Friday between government and FIFA over the Football debacle in the country where FIFA agreed with the intervention made by government to salvage Ghana’s football following the Anas video which uncovered deep rooted corruption in the game after over a hundred match officials where captured taking bribes to compromise their fairness in soccer games.

FIFA in consultation with Ghanaian government is to put in place interim measures that will allow for the continuation of football in Ghana.

“The Ghana government delegation will continue discussions with FIFA in Zurich, Switzerland, for the purpose of finalising interim arrangements regarding football in Ghana.” the joint statement said.

Government about a fortnight ago set up the five-member committee to be chaired by Dr Kofi Amoah, chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the CAN 2008, Cudjoe Fianoo, as the secretary, former Black Stars players Abedi Pele and Rev. Osei Kofi and Sports Journalist Eva Okyere, with Dan Kweku Yeboah serving as the committee’s Spokesperson.

But speaking on News File on Joy FM Saturday, Deputy Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame stated that as far as he’s concerned there’s no interim management committee, adding that even before the committee could get down to begin its work, it was not properly constituted after Mr Cudjoe Fianoo opted out of it.

“Now we cannot talk about interim management committee as it has been publicized that Mr Cudjoe Fianoo who was appointed as the Secretary has opted out, so how can there be an interim management committee? It’s better for the Ghanaian public so that we get all these facts right.

“The interim management committee was not inaugurated, the announcement of it was made. It has not set out to embark on their work, even before they could have the possibility of embarking on their work one member opted out so it is not properly constituted and there’s no interim management committee. As a government, we made it clear to FIFA that we’re not interested in running football in Ghana, all we seek to do is to ensure that the laws of Ghana are enforced.
