What Kalonzo Said About Uhuru’s Order on Lifestyle Audit of Public Officers

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has backed President Uhuru’s directive for lifestyle audit on all public officers.

Speaking during the opening of the new party headquarters in Karen, Nairobi, the NASA co-principal asked MPs to pass new legislation to actualise Uhuru’s directive.

Kalonzo noted that the law as constituted does not allow for a lifestyle audit even though public officers are required to declare their wealth every two years.

He said a lifestyle audit would ensure no one escapes scrutiny including the president, his deputy or any other top state officer.

“Once the framework is in place, we call for the involvement of a reputable international audit firm to work closely with Kenyan agencies to get to the bottom of this unprecedented theft of public resources.

“Illegally acquired public resources must revert to the public and those found culpable must face the full force of the law,” said Kalonzo.

He said the country had been in the global limelight because of institutionalized corruption.

“From the NYS rip-off to the reported seizer of contraband products corruptly imported into the country, the lives of our people are in grave danger.”

The new party offices are expected to act as a focal point as Kalonzo gears for his presidential bid in 2022. Musyoka said his bid is unstoppable despite the disintegration of NASA.

Makueni Governor and Wiper Chairman Prof. Kivutha Kibwana said Raila Odinga’s ODM must respect an earlier MoU to pave way for Kalonzo’s presidential bid.

“When we signed a coalition agreement, we agreed that Raila would run in 2017 then support Kalonzo in the next election and we will treat this as a breach of contract,” said Kibwana.
