“Reinstate George Afriyie now” – Okyeman Planners petition FIFA

Accra, June 19, GNA – Okyeman Planners Football
Club – a division one side from the Eastern Region, has petitioned the
Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), to compel the Ghana
Football Association (GFA) to reinstate Mr. George Afriyie, former Vice
President of the GFA.

Mr. Afriyie was sacked by Mr. Nyantakyi, after
declaring his intention to contest for the presidency of the GFA next year,
following lack of interest from the later.

Mr. Nyantakyi prior to the declaration of Mr.
Afriyie said, he would not seek re-election in the 2019 elections, but made a
subtle turn around after sometime.

In a two page petition signed by Mr Shadrach
Sarpei Kwadey – Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Okyeman Planners, it said the
sacking of Mr Afriyie by Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi, the embattled former GFA
President, was unconstitutional.

“The office of the vice president is a
creation of statute and not a personal assistant position to the president to
be at his wishes and pleasure”.

Mr Sarpei Kwadey is therefore asking FIFA to
reinstate Mr Afriyie, who had been the second in command at the GFA for three
years.

“When the GFA Executive Committee met to
discuss issues listed on the agenda as required by statutes, there was nothing
like removal of Mr George Afriyie from office as vice president, hence the
decision was unconstitutional.

“The process was flawed because it wasn’t part
of the agenda for the day, not to talk about the unilateral step taken by Mr
Nyantakyi,” he added.

Mr Sarpei Kwadey noted that the aftermath of
the Anas expose that saw high ranking members and administrators of the GFA
taking bribes, which subsequently led to the suspension and resignation of Mr
Nyantakyi and other fall-outs, including creeping external influences
constitute good reasons for his petition as one of the possible solutions to
the crisis in Ghana.
