Representatives of the Accra Academy Boys school beat competition to get to the 1/8 stage

Accra Academy Boys have progressed to 1/8 stage of the National Science and Maths Quiz after breezing through a contest that featured St. Mary’s Boys’ SHS and Anlo-Afiadenyigba SHS.

Accra Academy put day light between themselves and St. Mary’s Boys’ SHS by the second round with 24pts against 9 for their closest challenger.

By the final round, it was Accra Academy: 44pts St. Mary’s Boy’s: 28pts Anlo-Afiadenyigba SHS: 06pts.

In the end, the contest had all the hallmarks of the World Cup opener between Russia and Saudi Arabia, a lopsided result for the host.

Accra Academy has an uproarious fan base that disguises the awkward reality of never having won the 25-year old competition.

They would look back at their 2016 performance where they reached the seminal finals meeting Kumasi Sec Tech and eventual winner Adisadel College.

But ever hopeful, the school which tried to upset Presec in the one-eighth stage last year would hope to go as far as possible.

The Accra-based school with a football icon, however, showed a weakness in the third round where they were to solve the ‘Problem of the Day’.

St. Mary’s Boys’ SHS did two points better than Accra Academy’s 4pts. Anlo-Afiadenyigba SHS ended their participation with a score too low to be among the 18 high scoring losing schools.

With 6pts, their fate in the competition is irredeemable.
