Prof Ken Attafuah, Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority
Minister of Communication Ursula Owusu-Ekuful and Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority, Prof Ken Attafuah, are expected to address parliament today, Tuesday 12 June in connection with challenges facing the roll-out of the Ghana Card, which has been mired in controversy.
There was a no-show in Parliament on Monday, 11 June as staff and MPs were left stranded following the failure of officials of the NIA to show up to register them for the Ghana Card, as earlier advertised.
MPs from the majority side of the house, who were present for the registration, got furious about the situation, the second of its kind.
The registration exercise, which has suffered several postponements and been fraught with anomalies, suffered a similar no-show a few weeks ago, with the Executive Secretary, Prof Ken Attafuah blaming the situation on a technical glitch.
Meanwhile, the Minority in parliament and the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have raised concerns about the NIA’s insistence that it will use only birth certificates and passports as proof of citizenship for the registration.
The Minority had already served notice it was boycotting Monday’s exercise.
