Akufo Addo govt facing Communications challenge – Pratt

Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has said the Akufo Addo administration is having a major problem communicating effectively to the citizenry on issues of public interest.

According to him, the communications challenge if not checked will have dire consequences for the government.

Kwesi Pratt made the comment while commenting on the Communication from government officials about the happenings in Ghana football following the latest  exposé by ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas which uncovered the corruption in Ghana football.

It also captured the President of the GFA, Kwesi Nyantakyi using the name of President Akufo Addo to extort $65,000 from some ‘investors’ while over a hundred referees and match officials were captured taking bribes to compromise their fairness in matches.

Following the rot exposed in the football game which is the passion of the nation, government through the Minister of Information Dr Mustapha Hamid released an official statement indicating that the government is taking steps to dissolve the Ghana Football Association (GFA) following the investigative piece.

At the same time the Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah granted interviews to the media indicating that the GFA had been dissolved and ongoing domestic league suspended

But the veteran journalist finds a problem with the two statements from the two Ministers.

“There are two statements meaning two different things, when there’s an issue, the little I know being a Communications person is that you ensure there’s only one reference point not two. There’s been so many instances where we have communications from government institutions and officers saying different things on the same issue. I think it’s a major problem for government machinery, they should have one reference point at all times and not two. That will help the government and the nation as well.”
