Over 40 top members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) are vying for national leadership positions within the party.

The Party is currently preparing to elect its national executives and is to hold such election in July 2018.

Ahead of the election which will be done during the NPP’s National Delegates Conference between 6 to 8 July 2018, several persons have picked forms to stand for national executive positions.

Five aspirants are vying for the National Chairmanship position.

They include acting chairman of the NPP, Freddie Worsemawu Blay, Alhaji Abubakar Abdul-Rahman, Stephen Ayensu Ntim, Dr Richard Amoako Baah and David Kankam Boadu.

A total of 14 others are also vying for the party’s Nasara coordinator position.

This was captured in a press statement signed by the NPP’s acting Director of Research and Elections, Evans Nimako.

The statement was to announce the date for the vetting of persons for the various executive positions ahead of the National Delegates Conference.

“The National Elections Committee, under the Chairmanship of Most Rev. Dr Asante Antwi, of the New Patriotic Party, in consultation with stakeholders of the party wish to publish for the notice of the general public the names of aspirants who have filed their nomination to proceed to the vetting processes on these dates for their vetting,” the statement said.

Vetting for the National Nasara aspirants has been slated for May 28, 2018, while National Organizer and National Women Organizer hopefuls are to be screened the following day, May 29, 2018.

The date for vetting for General Secretary and National Treasure aspirants will also take place on May 30, 2018.

Vetting of the National Vice and National Chair aspirants will take place on May 31 and June 1, 2018.

“All aspirants are hereby required to furnish the office of the Directorate of Research and Elections and Secretary to the National Elections Committee with all necessary and better particulars where appropriate,” Evans Nimako added in the statement.

I withdrew from NPP race to allow non-Akans to contest – Akomea

Earlier, former Communications Director of the NPP, Nana Akomea refused to pick nomination forms explaining that he took such decision to allow other NPP stalwarts from the “non-Akan sub-group” to contest.

“When nominations opened…, l declined to pick forms. What is emerging is that this particular election may present the NPP with the most undiversified national leadership, as almost all the elected positions may be filled with people from the Akan subgroup. Every effort must be made to ensure that some of these positions have elected members from outside the Akan subgroup,” he posted on his Facebook wall May 13, 2018.
