Amissah – Arthur to chair second Revolutionary Lecture Series

Immediate Past Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Kwesi Bekoe Amissah –Arthur has been chosen to chair the second edition of the Revolutionary Lecture Series on Thursday May 31st, 2018 as part of activities marking the 39th anniversary of the June 4th uprising.

This year’s event will be held under the theme: REVOLUTIONARY ECONOMIC TRENDS, GHANA IN FOCUS: PAST PRESENT AND THE FUTURE.

The immediate Past Vice President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah Arthur would be joined by two eminent personalities Former Finance Minister, Professor Kwesi Botchwey and the Executive Director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, Professor Newman K. Kusi who will headline the second edition of the Revolutionary Lecture Series.

The organization is under the auspices of the Office of the former President Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings, who is also the Founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as part of activities marking the annual celebration of the June 4, 1979 uprising.

Kwesi Amissah Arthur chairs the lecture as someone who builds trust, courts alliances, builds consensus and keeps track of national issues.

He made sure that Ghana was in tandem with the commanding dogmas of international finance and business, under his safe hands when he was the chief pilot, as a former Vice President of the Republic of Ghana and, former Governor of the Bank of Ghana and a major player in international finance circles.

He comes on board as one of Ghana’s finest Economic Surgeons – who headed government’s economic management team with courage, vision, wisdom and ability- in theory and in practice. , A’ Father of Modern Economics’.

He’s someone with a mastery of public administration and the intricate art of balancing policy priorities and political intrigues and the economic situations in the country is superb.

H.E Amissah Arthur held the post of deputy finance secretary/minister for ten years and being in charge of the central bank during one of the longest period of stability for our currency since independence.

He’s a man well recognized for his many achievements and immense contributions to the polity, communal liberalism, growth, and general welfare of the people of Ghana. Beyond these, he is a humble man, dearly loved and respected.

Professor Botchwey is expected to deliver a lecture on Ghana’s economic and social situation prior to 1983. It will be followed by a review of the economic reforms from 1983 to 1992: Issues, Responses and Outcomes.

Professor Kusi speaking on Ghana’s Economic Growth and Development in the Democratic Environment – Issues, Responses and Outcomes, and a rethinking of Ghana’s development on a sustainable basis.

The Revolutionary Lecture Series is part of the experiences and philosophy of former President Jerry John Rawlings and the revolutionary transition Ghana went through.

The Lecture Series draws revolutionary ideas and experiences from politics, trade & industry, academia, gender, foreign and the global environment with the hope to help transform and shape the national psyche, attitudes, and behaviors.

The lecture will precede a durbar of cadres and revolutionaries at the Madina Social Welfare School Park on Monday June 4 at 10am. The durbar which will be addressed by the leader of the revolution, Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings will be under the theme: Re-organizing towards the Core Values.

Both events are open to the public. Sympathizers of the June 4 Uprising and the 31st December revolution, workers students, activists, civil society organizations and public-spirited persons are invited to attend the event.
