The Mayor of Accra with the trophy
The maiden Ghana Beach Sports Festival has ended in the capital Accra with some spectacular highpoints
Originally created for only beach soccer, the multi-sports and entertainment event was highlighted by a massive health walk from La, Trade Fair to Laboma Beach resort.
Accra Mayor Hon Agyei Sowah led the walk and carried the giant Beach Soccer Unity Cup to the beach.
Not even the rainstorm mid-afternoon could dampen an event that climaxed beyond our wildest expectations.
The final match ended 4-3 in favour of Volta region who defeated Team Greater Accra in a tight and combative encounter.
However, it was team Ashanti, playing in her first ever beach soccer competition that stole the headlines with a shock 2-1 win over Greater Accra.
Much of the success of the sports and entertainment festival can also be attributed to sponsors support including souvenirs and GH 3,000 cash prize for the champions Team Volta from CAL Bank.
Cowbell also provided assorted drinks, t-shirts and other items for the teams.
Meanwhile, Kasapreko who have indicated their interest in potential long-term support for beach soccer provided packages for players, officials and fans with their soft drink brands Veraldo Malt, Storm Energy drink and Awake Mineral water.
The national beach soccer league will now kick off in June with great expectations and excitement to be telecast by Kwesé Free Sports, Gtv and Yfm.
