Prisca Sodzi died at the Koforidua Regional Hospital during childbirth
The family of a 21-year-old pregnant woman who died with her triplet babies [two boys and a girl] at the Koforidua Regional Hospital in the Eastern region after allegedly being abandoned by nurses on duty have warned the hospital not to perform post-mortem on their deceased relative.
Husband of the deceased woman, Samuel Mawuli, told Kasapa News that the family which is obviously angry has vowed to deal ruthlessly with the hospital if doctors should go ahead and cut the body.
According to Samuel Mawuli, the deceased, Sodzi Prisca, a native of Benin was initially admitted at the Suhum Government Hospital last Thursday while in labour, but due to her condition, she was referred to the Regional Hospital for further examination.
When she arrived at the hospital, oxygen and intravenous infusion were administered onto her but she was abandoned until her situation became worse and was rushed to the theatre to undergo an operation after falling from a bed at the ward.
Samuel Mawuli insists that the nurses failed to attend to his wife when her condition deteriorated.
“Prisca was complaining that she was having pains in her vagina while she struggled on the bed with oxygen and intravenous infusion placed on her nose and the left hand respectively. My sister who was at the hospital with my wife then rushed to the nurses to inform them of her situation but they were not willing to go and attend to her. I took some time until one of the nurses asked her to go and pack Prisca’s items so she’s sent to the theatre, only to return to see my wife fallen from the bed onto the ground with blood all over the ground. My wife managed to deliver at about 12:00 but died shortly after together with the triplets.”
The Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr Anim Boamah, has been unavailable for comments on the matter.
