A multinational conglomerate headquartered in Accra, 9BS Group of Companies, have pledged a total of GHc 260,000 in support of the fundraising efforts by the John Agyekum Kufuor (JAK) Foundation.
Of the amount, the company has given the Foundation a cheque for GHC 20,000, with the remainder (i.e. GHc 240, 000) going into the construction of three mechanised boreholes at locations to be chosen by the JAK Foundation.
The JAK Foundation, on Friday in Accra, launched a major fundraising drive to raise GHc 80 million to fund some of its ongoing projects, including the building of a leadership centre at the University of Ghana (UG) Legon campus, a Kufuor Scholars’ Programme and an Africa Rice Initiative.
The Executive Chairman of the 9BS Group, Mr. Wabadang Vairi, said his outfit was inspired to support the JAK Foundation because both entities shared similar goals and vision.
“When you look at the vision of the Kufuor Foundation, it is almost the same as ours. We all want to train and provide opportunities to our youths, towards a better Africa tomorrow,” Mr. Vairi said.
He explained that after donating GHc 20,000 to the Kufuor Foundation on Friday, his outfit felt it felt the need to additionally construct three solar-panelled boreholes in support of a water project which the Foundation was currently undertaking.
He said the three boreholes, to be sited at locations identified by the Kufuor Foundation, was estimated at a total cost of GHc 240, 000.
Mr. Viari described the three boreholes as part his outfit’s corporate social responsibility, and indicated the readiness to complete them by December, this year. “We will go the Foundation and discuss with them the procedures and timelines. Hopefully, by the time the old man, President Kufuor, is celebrating his 80th birthday in December, we would have completed them,” he noted.
Projects undertaken by the Kufuor Foundation are inspired by former President Kufuor’s passion for practical and sustainable development, and they aim at advancing effective leadership, good governance and socio-economic development.
