GES to cancel ICT deal despite paying millions of cedis

The Ghana Education Service (GES) says it is left with “no option than to abrogate” a contract it entered into with Eduvid Education Limited to provide some Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment.

Director-General of the GES, Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa said on Thursday that the service provider Eduvid Education Limited failed to honour its side of the contract, more than two years after being paid several millions of Ghana cedis for the task.

The deal, signed on 13 November 2015, was for the supply and installation of an information technology system for the country’s education drive.

Full payment was made through the regional Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS).

The 2016 Auditor General’s report revealed that the service provider had reneged on its side of the bargain even after repeated inquiries from school authorities.

Appearing before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Thursday, 26 April 2018, Director-General of the GES, Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, said they have been left with no option than to abrogate the contract and surcharge the service provider.
