Some aggrieved nurses protesting
Some frustrated bonded unemployed nurses and midwives today [Monday], demonstrated in Tamale over government’s failure to post them.
The licensed health professionals say they can no longer tolerate government’s assurances, hence the street protest.
The demonstrators from the three regions of the north held placards with inscriptions such as, “We need our clearance now”, “Mother Ghana needs nurses health care”, “We voted for jobs”, “Abaa Nana”, “why all this promise and fail,” and “an angry nurse is potential killer” among others.
According to them, they have been neglected after successfully leaving school in 2016.
They have thus given government a two-week ultimatum to address their concern or else they will picket at the Ministry of Health and the Jubilee House.
The Zonal Coordinator of the bonded Nurses and Midwives Association, representing the three regions of the north, Atia Amerf, told Citi News that government has been unfair to them.
“We have been qualified and licensed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. We have been issued with license certificates to practice as nurses. We have been promised by our leaders, that it is the ministry and the President of the land, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo. And as it is now we have not heard anything from all the promises that have been given.”
Atia Amerf said they will continue to pile pressure on government to post them.
“After this demonstration, if it yields nothing positive, our next line of action is to organize a picketing which we have done before. We will picket at the Ministry of Health and the Jubilee House.”
