NPP Regional Polls: Western Regional 1st Vice Chairman elected as Chairman

The Western Regional First Vice Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Francis Ndede Siah has been elected as the Chairman of the party to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.

At the end of the keenly contested election held at Tarkwa UMaT on Saturday, April 21, 2018, Mr. Ndede Siah emerged victorious in the chairmanship race; polling 233 votes to beat Ben Armah who had 160 votes, with Frank Etti and Nana Owusu Ankomah polling 73 and 31 votes respectively.

The First Vice Chairman position went to Nana Kumi Ansah after he polled 185 votes.

James Obeng Jnr had 135 votes, Alberto Takyi had 88 votes, Mohammed Ben Ali also had 46 votes and Mr. Abdul Mumin Issah polled 42 votes.

Ishmael Evonla Whajah became the Second Vice Chairman of the NPP with 193 votes against the 115 votes won by Abena Kwallah.

Other contenders; Samuel Otoo polled 64 votes, Kojo Boakye Yiadom 46, Gabriel Gyasi polled 42 and Charles Cobbinah had 39 votes.

The incumbent Secretary, Charles Bissue took the Secretary position with 248 votes against his contenders; Okatekyie Amankwaa Afrifa and Emmanuel Acquaah.

The incumbent Assistant Secretary, Samuel Kofi Abuse retained his seat with 227 votes as against Samuel Adu Agyei who had 187 votes and Ken Wood also polled 84 votes.

The Organiser position was won by the incumbent, Abdul Ganiyu Mohammed with 230 votes, Amoabeng who polled 196 votes, Mr. Kojo Acquah had 81 votes, Mr. Kwame with 47 votes and Mr. Baba Yiddana with 7 votes.

The Women Organiser position was won by the incumbent Madam Golly Antwi Bosiako with 335 votes to beat Madam Juliana Aidoo who polled 99 votes and Madam Agnes polled 64 votes.

The Youth Organiser position was won by Benedict Addaae with 142 votes to Ishmael Bravo who polled 139 votes, Benjamin Paa Kwesi Moses had 138 votes and Osagyefo Kwaw who polled 78 votes.

Al-Labib Shaman took the Nasara Coordinator position as he polled 152 votes against Alhassan Abdul Raman who had 106 votes, Alhaji Adam Haruna Ahmed with 73 votes, Onasis Aminu Abubakar with 54 votes, Sidi Ibrahim-Ahmed polled 54 votes and Alhaji Ridwan Ishaq also polled 34 votes.

Miss Anna Akasi Hormah Miezah polled 214 votes to win the Treasure position as against Nana Adjoa Appiah who also had 195 votes, Esther Nyantakyi polled 73 votes and Spy Akufur with 10 votes.

Addressing the party faithfuls after the elections, the elected Regional Chairman, Mr. Francis Ndede Siah expressed his profound gratitude to the party delegates and supporters for the massive support given to him and pledged his commitment to work together with all party members.

“My doors all open to all and I’m going to work hard to increase our Parliamentary and Presidential votes in the Region in 2020 general elections”, he assured.

He added that his leadership is going to ensure all-inclusiveness.

He also assured the party in the Region to work hard to resolve some internal wrangling within some Constituencies and make the party most attractive political party in the Region.

He therefore promised to work hard to build a well-structured party office for the party in the Region.

“My vision is to build a befitting party office for the Region and I need your total support”, he assured.

He called on the party members to rally behind President Akufo-Addo government and pray for President Akufo-Addo to develop the country.

Speaking to GhanaWeb’s Western Regional Correspondent, the Chairperson of the Election Committee who is also the Acting National Women’s Organiser, Haijia Saaed thanked the delegates and party supporters for the peaceful conference.

She congratulated the contestants and delegates for the orderly and peaceful manner they conducted themselves during the polls.

She also urged the winners and losers to work together to ensure another victory for the party in 2020.

The Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency and the host MP, Hon. George Mireku Duker also thanked the party faithfuls for ensuring violent-free conference.

He used the occasion to thank the Election Committee for selecting his Constituency as the host of the 2018 Delegates’ Conference.

He wished the winners well and pleaded with them to work closer with the losers to ensure that the unity in the party in the Region continues to exist.

In all, 497 delegates voted for 43 candidates that contested 10 vacant positions in the Region which was supervised by Mr. Opoku Mensah, the Regional Director of Electoral Commission (EC) in the Western Region.

The election witnessed no spoiling ballot paper and it was characterized by heavy security presence.

The Delegates’ Conference increased the economic activities in the area and gave platform for some National Executives who are aspiring to be the National Executives of the party to display their posters.
