TV3 has, in a statement, explained the brief disruption in its live coverage of the 19th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) last Saturday and indirectly blamed Charterhouse for the disruption.

The statement said the disruption was caused by a lost feed from the event organisers, Charterhouse, who produced the show.

The live telecast of the 2018 VGMAs on Saturday was disrupted at the same time the station’s former news anchor, Nana Aba Anamoah, was on stage to present an award.

A lot of people who watched the award ceremony on TV took to social media to condemn the TV network, alleging it deliberately took Nana Aba off its screens.

Some people poked fun at the whole scenario on their social media platforms, while others argued it was because it is a wrong platform for Nana Aba to ask such a question.

But the station took to Twitter to clear the air and apologised to viewers in a tweet that seemed to suggest the fault came from TV3.

“Apologies for the loss in transmission. We had a technical issue that briefly affected the live feed of the #VGMA2018. Issue was rectified immediately. We got back, so you didn’t miss any of the winners,” the network said in a tweet.

However its statement on Monday said after post awards investigation, it revealed that the disruption didn’t come from TV3.

“During the live transmission of the 19th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA), TV3 experienced a brief disruption in service which impacted our viewers across the country.

“Our team, working with our partners and event organisers, Charterhouse, urgently got to work to ensure transmission was restored to our cherished viewers immediately.

Post the awards, investigations were conducted into the cause of the disruption which revealed that the feed from Charterhouse, who produced the show, to TV3 was briefly interrupted causing the break in transmission,” the statement said.

“As the leading media organisation in Ghana with extensive experience in live productions, we appreciate and understand the technical challenges inherent in producing an event such as the VGMAs. We are aware that the break in transmission from Charterhouse to TV3 was of a technical nature and not deliberate. We apologise to our viewers for the brief loss in transmission and have taken your feedback in good faith. We will continue to work towards delivering superior content that enriches your viewing experience. But above all, it is our hope that you (our viewers) enjoyed our coverage of the awards,” it added.
