The Ghana Health Service has ensured sanctions would be taken against those indicted
The Catholic Health Service has begun investigations into the circumstances that led to the death of a nine-week-old baby who was on admission at the Saint Gregory Hospital at Bundumburam, near Kasoa in the Central Region.
Last week, media reports said the doctor on duty had allegedly pulled off the oxygen mask on the baby because the baby’s parents parents could not pay an amount of GhC533 leading to the baby’s death.
But speaking to Citi News, the Administrator of the Hospital, Matias Anaba, said an independent committee investigating the matter would meet officially on the matter on Monday, April 16, 2018.
“…independent inquiry committee constituted by the Executive Director, Catholic Health Service in consultation with the regional health directorate has selected some people to investigate this matter… On Monday, the team will be sitting on the matter to ascertain the truth or otherwise of this allegation,” he added.
Mr. Anaba further indicated that the reports currently circulating in the media are contrary to the hospital’s policy, stressing that they would under no circumstance, remove oxygen from a patient for non-payment of medical bills.
The Ghana Health Service had earlier ordered investigations into the matter, and had assured that sanctions would be taken against those indicted if it is established that something untoward occurred.
