Newmont Ghana has resumed operations at its Ahafo and Akyem mines following a suspension of work after six miners died in a tunnel accident last week.
“Newmont temporarily suspended production at both Ahafo and Akyem mines following the accident.
“However, operations at both mines have resumed following extensive safety discussions and risk assessments,” the miner said in a statement.
Newmont noted that it has offered its condolences and support to the bereaved families of the six contractors who lost their lives on 7 April in the tragic construction accident at the Ahafo Mill Expansion project site.
The company said it continues to cooperate with the Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission to support their investigation of the accident.
It also said the Ahafo Mill Expansion project and all surface civil construction works, will remain suspended until Newmont and the authorities are satisfied that work can resume safely.
Newmont Ghana said it is providing support and counseling services to the families, Consar employees, as well as its employees.
