As part of measures to ensure that key steps are taken to address some of the critical needs of journalists, the Ghana Journalist Association has launched the Media village project that seeks to provide affordable houses for journalists in the country.

The Media Village project is a collaboration between Koans Corporation and the Ghana Journalist Association targeted at providing decent residential accommodation for journalists in the country.

With sixty thousand Ghana cedis, journalists can own a two bedroom house or acquire a three bedroom house for eighty thousand cedis at the GJA Media village which is located at Pampaso in Nsawam.

The GJA president, Mr. Affail Monney said that the GJA has negotiated with Koans Estate Limited on flexible terms of payment for prospective owners to meet the capacity of most journalists even though they are poorly paid.

He said “ the harmful truth is that most journalists are frustrated by the burden of skyrocketing rent advance, so it is worth the effort for all journalists, irrespective of their financial standing, to squeeze water out of stone to acquire the Media Village houses. The Koans Real Estate Company has been in existence for almost a decade now. The Koans corporate village is a new approach aimed at meeting the housing needs of the middle-class Ghanaian.

As one of the lead sponsors of the 22nd GJA Awards, Koans Estate Limited awarded Kwame Sefa Kayi, Journalist of The Year 2016, with a three-bedroom house worth GH¢200,000 at the Media Village as his prize, making him the first journalist to own a house at the village.
