President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has broken his silence on the controversial Ghana-US military agreement which has drawn attention to Ghana in the past few weeks.
The President in his address on Thursday, April 5, 2018, in the strongest possible terms, refuted the widespread reports of the establishment of a military base in Ghana.
According to President Akufo-Addo, Ghana has “not offered a military base, and will not offer a military base to the United States of America.”
He affirmed that “the United States of America has not made any request for such consideration and, consistent with our established foreign policy, we will not consider any such request.”
President Akufo-Addo also among other sentimental things, says he is outraged by assertions made by the opposition National Democratic Congress and the Minority in Parliament that his government intends to sell the sovereignty of Ghana to the United States of America by signing the infamous US military deal.
He however nullified the series of arguments raised by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Minority in Parliament describing them as “hypocrites” and “cynics”.
