Management of the hospital are yet to explain why there are only two doctors at the facility
There is chaos at Accra’s major children’s healthcare facility, the Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital as angry parents accuse the hospital of neglect.
Frustrated mothers say the hospital is unnecessarily delaying in attending to their sick children.
They told Joy News’ Adelaide Arthur they are often compelled to spend the whole day at the hospital in a desperate wait for a doctor to attend to their sick children.
“The doctors do as they please, they come and go as they want…I have been here since 7 am but it is over 10 hours and no one has paid attention to me.
“There is only one doctor taking care of all the people here which is unfair…the children are suffering and it is because of them the doctors are paid,” a fatigued mother said.
Another mother said she was called from work that her 10 months’ old son was vomiting blood and she has been sitting at the hospital for over five hours trying to get a doctor to see her child.
She also complained that although there are many parents with sick children needing attention, the numbers are overwhelming for the only one doctor on duty.
“This is an emergency but he [doctor] has not been able to see to him because it takes time to listen and diagnose the other patients,” she added.
One of the disturbed mothers said she has no option but to take her son – who is running a temperature – back home since no doctor is available to see him.
“It is not safe to be out here with this baby at this time of the night,” she said.
The management of the hospital is yet to explain why there are only two doctors at the facility.
