Koku’s arrest won’t stop our demo against Ghana-U.S. military deal – GFPF

Organisers of a planned demonstration against the Ghana-U.S. military pact, which is scheduled for Wednesday, say the arrest of the deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not stop them from embarking on the exercise against the government.

The group, Ghana First Patriotic Front (GFPF), in a statement released last night said the arrest of Anyidoho has rather strengthened their resolve to “defend the sovereignty of our beloved country regardless of what it will cost us”.

They said no amount of intimidation will compel them to rescind their decision, urging all Ghanaians who have willingly expressed interest to join the demonstration exercise to wear black or red with Ghana colours to convey their unambiguous message to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s alleged betrayal of their trust in approving the country’s military exercise with the United States Forces.

*For Immediate Release*

ALL SET FOR PUT GHANA FIRST DEMO

The Ghana First Patriotic Front (GFPF) wishes to assure all Ghanaians that all is set for tomorrow’s “Put Ghana First Demonstration.”

We are grateful to Ghanaians from all walks of life for the support we have received so far. We are particularly inspired by the solidarity expressed by opposition political parties and the Minority in Parliament.

We also acknowledge the statement from the Ghana Police Service today indicating their readiness to provide security. We however hesitate to add that it is our hope that the needless excesses and brutalities meted out to harmless and helpless civilians will not be repeated at our march.

That notwithstanding, today’s events will not intimidate nor deter us. To the contrary, our resolve has been strengthened and we are further motivated to defend the sovereignty of our beloved country regardless of what it will cost us.

We humbly appeal to all Ghanaians joining us tomorrow to come wearing black or red with Ghana colours as we convey our unambiguous message which is to mourn President Akufo-Addo’s betrayal of our trust and his unfortunate determination to mortgage our sovereignty, dignity and stability for a pittance.

Ghana First!
