National chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Monarh, has described the Defence Corporation Agreement between Ghana and the United States of America as disgusting.
According to him, government’s decision to approve the deal exposes the country’s security to risks.
He believes Ghana’s water bodies will become US bomb-testing ground.
“I think this issue of military base in Ghana is disgusting in that it only exposes the country’s security to risk and it’s very bad. Already our water bodies are not in good shape but I can assure you that they will end up using our waters for bomb testing.
“The US has sufficient land space to be able to test their bombs but they have chosen to do that on ours so that when there is a problem they can just go back to their country, leaving us to suffer” it’s very bad” he said on Accra-based radio station, Okay FM monitored by Adomonline.com.
The Minister of Defense, Dominic Nitiwul, on Tuesday laid before Parliament the document seeking to ratify an agreement for space around the Kotoka International Airport, which will serve as a camp for some US military forces in Ghana.
The Minority walked out of the House when the bill was presented for ratification, but the Majority in Parliament from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) voted to approve to deal.
But Mr Monarh said the agreement is an errant insult on the sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Ghana.
The agreement, he added, has the tendency of polarising the state and must be resisted by all Ghanaians.
