It is a widely held perception that most politicians are wealthy because it is perceived they allegedly engage in corrupt practices to enrich themselves when given the opportunity to serve without recourse to the development of the country.

But businessman cum politician, Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike is of a contrary view observing that the civil servants now appear to have overtaken the politicians and are reportedly richer as a result of their ill-gotten wealth than the politicians

He singled out port officials in the country alleging their corrupt activities have made them richer than politicians who many he claimed are accusing wrongly.

“They dupe importers by charging them unapproved taxes. …I have been a victim so I am speaking from experience”, he alleged.

“Chief Directors, Directors, Departmental Heads and civil servants are now richer than politicians we all know”, the founder and leader of United Progressive Party (UPP) disclosed exclusively MyNewsGh.com.

“If President Akufo-Addo wants to fight corruption in our ports, he has to direct his attention to these civil servants who are duping Ghanaian businessmen and women”, he told our reporter Kwabena Danso-Dapaah.

Meanwhile, the Greater Accra Women Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Joyce Konokie Zimpare has indicated that about 80% of public sector workers who are wealthy acquired their wealth through corrupt practices.

Speaking on Oman FM’s National Agenda show hosted by Yaw Boakye Amofa and monitored by MyNewsGh.com said: “I will sit on your network and say that 80% of public sector workers, who are rich acquired their wealth through corrupt practices,” she alleged.

Her conclusion was premised on the fact that many young people, especially the graduate are looking for White Collar jobs in the public sector for reasons best known to them.
