Ghana Premier League side, Liberty Professionals, have unveiled Reginald Asante Boateng as head coach of the club.

The 35-year old former Liberty Professionals and Bechem United player signed a 3-year contract with the Scientific Soccer Lads.

Boateng has been with the club’s youth system since retiring in 2014 and recently served as the assistant coach to Michael Osei, who left the club for Star Madrid FC, owned by Zylofon.

Addressing the club’s fans in a Facebook Live video, Boateng said the experience of working under different coaches has equipped him adequately for the job.

“Since I joined Liberty, I have worked under several coaches like Sellas Tetteh, Nii Noi Thompson, George Lamptey, JE Sarpong, Ignatius Osei and other young coaches and I’ve learned a lot from them.

“I’m a Liverpool fan and I believe in attacking football so the fans should expect beautiful football with lots of goals,” he said.

Boateng also spoke of his targets for the club: “My target is to finish in the top six. In the last few years, we have been battling relegation but I hope to change that.”

Liberty lost key players in the offseason. Star striker Bernard Arthur left for Tanzania, while club captain Samuel Sarfo moved to Iraq. But Boateng is not worried about having to deal with a new crop of players.

“People believe in the youth. We believe developing and marketing and every time someone leaves, there’s a quick replacement waiting to be brought in so that’s not a problem.”

Boateng’s first task is a home game against WAFA, one he is expecting to win.

“Our team is young and so are WAFA. We watched their game against Asante Kotoko and we have prepared well for them. The fans should expect a win come Sunday.”
