Sports Minister cuts sod for $2.4m Volta Region Youth Centre

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah has cut the sod for the commencement of work on a 10,000-seater multipurpose Youth Centre at Nuwunu, Ho in the Volta Region.

The $2.4 million project forms part of government’s efforts to provide Ghanaian youth with opportunities to develop their talents.

The project, which is being executed by the Wilkado Construction Works will comprise a FIFA standard football pitch, an eight-lane athletic track, a tennis court, a basketball court, a handball court, a gymnasium, a counselling centre, youth ICT centre, entrepreneurship centre and a restaurant.

According to Mr Asiamah, the project begins immediately and is expected to be completed in nine months.

The Minister in his address said it was unacceptable for young children to continue to playing on the streets at the risk of losing their lives.

He said it was important for the government to continue to make such investments to secure the future of Ghana.

He also expressed gratitude to the Chiefs of Ho for donating over 100 acres of land for the project
