A security analyst has argued that the seat of the presidency (Flagstaff House) is a very dangerous place for the president to stay in.
Adib Saani, who belongs to the JatiKay Centre for Human Security and Peace Building believes the Flagstaff House, which is located at the heart of Accra and also a few meters away from the Kotoka International Airport, shares walls with embassies and other residential areas. This he believes could spark any action of spying from these embassies.
According to him, the Flagstaff House also faces the risk of terrorism because of how exposed it is to vehicular traffic. He believes the best option for the president is the Peduase Lodge which is situated in a traffic-free zone and impregnable.
Commenting on the decision by the president to stay at his Nima residence in Accra, the security analyst warned of dire implications.
According to him, Nana Addo’s Nima residence is a no-go area when it comes to the security of the presidency. He says it is “unwise to keep the President at his Nima Residence, considering its close proximity to human and vehicular traffic.
Creating a textbook bubble around the Nima Residence, therefore, would require we go beyond evicting the squatters but should include evicting occupants of all private and corporate properties around the vicinity stretching to the ring road.”
Meanwhile, it still remains unknown if the president could be considering moving out of his Nima residence or not.
