The Youth and Sports Ministry has announced prize package for Ghanaian athletes for next month’s Commonwealth Games which will be staged in Australia.

Deputy Sports Pius Hadzide said his outfit will pay each athlete, $5,000 as prize money for gold medals, with $3,000 and $2,000 going for silver and bronze medalists respectively.

According to the Mr. Hadzide, International Games Committee (IGC) has gotten sponsorship and they will be adding extra $10,000 for gold medal.

“For the gold, the International Games Committee has decided to give $5,000 , $3,000 for silver and $2,000 for bronze,” he revealed during Tuesday’s meet the press.

He added, “The IGC has gotten sponsorship from a philanthropist who has decided to add an extra $10,000 for gold so in effect it is $15,000 for gold, but $5,000 from the government of Ghana and $10,000 from an Australian company that has been operating in Ghana for the past 35 years.”
