Zoomkids Club Programme trains children to adopt good sanitary habits
Zoomkids Club, made up of environmental and sanitation clubs in basic schools, took part in the celebration of 61st Independence parade as part of its public education programme on environmental sanitation.
Every year kids who are members of the Zoomkids Club participate in an Independence Day march as part of efforts to promote awareness on environmental sanitation issues.
Members of the club used banners and placards with inscriptions such as: Do not litter, Waste is a resource, etc. to deliver messages on sanitation.
Through the campaign, Zoomlion Foundation seeks to sensitize the general public on sanitation, especially in the area of proper handling of waste.
It also seeks to develop school children into responsible change agents for the future. The messages reached over 1000 people who were present in the seven venues selected for the campaign.
Working in collaboration with Ghana Education Service, 280 Zoomkids Club members and their patrons (teachers) were drawn from seven schools namely Sowa Din Memorial JHS1&2 in Accra, Kabore Basic School in Ho, Dan Ibu School Complex in Wa, SDA Basic School in Bolgatanga, Ada Foah Methodist Basic school, Adenta Community School in Accra and 3 Garrison Cluster of Schools in Sunyani.
Thousands of people in Accra, Bolgatanga, Sunyani, Wa, Ho, Adenta, and Ada who witnessed the parade received messages geared towards sanitation improvement.
The school children who took part in the campaign were excited. One female pupil from Kabore Basic School expressed her joy and satisfaction for the opportunity to participate in the awareness-raising campaign saying “I am glad I have the opportunity to tell the general public to desist from littering our environment”.
Additionally, a class 5 pupil of Ada Foah Methodist Basic School was of the opinion that Zoomkids Club should be established in every school to promote environmental cleaning. She added, “joining the club will promote good health and hygiene in our schools”.
On his part, the Programme Officer of Zoomlion Foundation, Mr. Thomas Narh Korley reiterated President Nana Akuffo Addo’s message on sanitation indicating that “every day is a sanitation day” and all must join hands to educate the general public on sanitation issues.
He added that the Zoomkids Club Programme is training future leaders and giving them the platform to promote sanitation in the society.
The Zoomkids Club is the flagship project of Zoomlion Foundation. The aim is to promote widespread awareness on environmental sanitation issues amongst young people and help them to adopt good sanitary habits.
The sanitation clubs operate in over 400 basic schools across the country. The clubbers engage in many sanitation activities including proper handwashing exercises, waste recycling projects, health talks, excursions, environmental sanitation quizzes, essays and debates.
