Deputy Greater Accra Regional Youth Organiser for the NPP, Philip Doe
The Deputy Greater Accra Regional Youth Organiser for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Philip Doe, has said he is poised to handle his party’s youth in the region and work for party’s victory in 2020 when he is voted into office as the Regional Youth Organiser.
“I am more than capable to hold the position,” he told Myxyzonline.com in an interview.
Philip, since 1999, has been instrumental in the party’s electoral activities. He was a polling agent in the Volta Region during the first round of the 2000 general election.
After a victory for the then candidate John Agyekum Kufuor in the second round, Philip Doe, who was among the key activists for the NPP during the second round at Jemeni, was awarded together with his team. The citations from Hon S. A Odoi Sykes, Hon Dan Kwaku Botwe and Hon Jake Obetsebi Lamptey of blessed memory pushed him to do even more for the party.
Prior to the 2000 polls, Doe was among the young party folks who fought well to get the Ablekuma Central seat for NPP when there was a by-election. The resounding victory for the NPP in that election earned the Constituency the name “Gateway to the Castle”.
Speaking on how well he has understood the dynamics of politics at the grass root level, Philip Doe said his past held positions in the party from 2001 when he was elected a Youth Organiser for the 10:30 polling station and Mataheko Electoral Area, have taught him how to amass party youth to strive for fortunes for the party.
“Since 2001 To 2008, any by-election which took place during that era, I was part of the team that went to the ground for the NPP. I have worked under the then General Secretary, Hon. Dan Botwe, Hon Lord Commey, Hon John Buadu, Hon Alex Quartey, Hon Eric Mensah and Hon Robert Kwame Dadzie,” Philip narrated.
Aside his promotion in the party, though young at the time, he was able to organise delegates for the then candidate Nana Akufo-Addo in 2007 when he stood for the position of a flagbearer. Philip’s organisational skills led to the overwhelming endorsement of Mr Akufo-Addo’s candidature the same year at Legon.
He worked closely with Mustapha Hamid, the current Information Minister and the then parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma Central, Robert Sabarh.
Under the leadership of Hon Henry Quartey as the deputy Greater Accra Regional Organiser for the NPP, Philip Doe worked with some party stalwarts in the region like Elizabeth Kwaatsoo Sackey, Nii Adjetey London and Hon Ayorkor Botchwey to retain Nana Akufo-Addo as the flagbearer for the NPP in 2012 through grass root activism.
As the Youth Organiser for the Ablekuma Central constituency, Doe and his Youth Wing were able to increase the party’s votes at Ablekuma from 6,000 To 10,000 in the 2012 elections.
His hard work that year earned him a recognition award from the then National Youth Organiser who is now MP for Lawra, Anthony Karbo.
In 2013, after losing 23 votes to Prince Obeng, Philip Doe was appointed the Deputy Regional Youth Organiser with the duty of canvassing for votes from semi literates for Akufo-Addo in the 2016 polls.
Telling how instrumental he was in increasing the fortunes of the party in the region during the 2016 elections, Philip stated that: “my Regional Women Organiser and my team were those that lead the convoy of Nana Akufo-Addo to tour the region. We helped Hon Ishmael Ashitey to win the Regional Chairman slot. At the time we had only 9 seats in the Region, my team and I worked to increase the seats to 14 in 2012. In 2016, as a Deputy Youth Organiser, I played a critical role in increasing our seats from 14 to 21.”
Summing it up, Philip Doe said he has done so much for the party and when he is voted into power as the Greater Accra Youth Organiser, there is more he can do to add up to the fortunes of the party in 2020.
